Throwback Thursday
Back in the day, Clann Marrach Faol spent most of its time as the #1 Ranked Guild on Napa Valley, even when we later had to split into two stones (M^F and M-F) due to a glitch in the guildstone management that didn’t allow you to access the names of guild members (to grant titles to, or boot) after a certain number. This screenshot was taken when we first took the #1 spot in July 2001.
Assassination of Lord British
I was recently reminiscing about Ultima Online and found myself going through Ultima Online-related videos on YouTube. It reminded me of an incident that occurred in-game during Beta Testing.
In August of 1997, Lord British and Lord Blackthorn made an in-game appearance during Ultima Online’s Beta Test, their appearance was part of server population stress test. A player by the name of Rainz cast a fire field spell on Lord British that, to everyone’s surprise, killed him.
Although Lord British’s character had been made invulnerable, the server had crashed shortly before the incident and reset which also reset Lord British’s invulnerability flag. Richard Garriott (who played Lord British) then forgot to turn his invulnerability flag on when he logged back in. After Lord British was killed, Lord Blackthorn (played by fellow Ultima Online developer Starr Long) summoned deamons, which proceeded to attack the innocent bystanders in attendance.
Here is a YouTube video of someone who was in attendance during the incident.
Recreating the M^F Site…(again!)
Several years ago, GoDaddy decided to delete the M^F site that was being hosted on a free account that Aedilwulf had with them (for owning so many accounts and domains). So I had to rebuild the website for a second time (after rebuilding it the first time when it got hacked) using files from the OLD website. However, since the Free GoDaddy Account was complete and utter crap…slow to load, often timing out and almost impossible to update…it was actually a blessing in disguise, as it allowed me to move the website to my own host. Only problem was…we lost the marrachfaol.org domain (in addition to losing the original britannia-online.com domain years earlier).
But then here I am rebuilding it for a third time after all my files disappeared from the server. Host said…”possible hack?”….not sure if they were making a statement or asking a question. Either way…new website build.
While M^F is barely active in UO these days (save for a few people) and Napa Valley has become a ghost shard, I’ve decided to keep the M^F website up and running as a place for past members to visit and reminisce.
For those of you that liked to poke in every couple of months to say “hello”, I should have some sort of forum or bulletin board up shortly.
